If you were to walk a mile in my shoes, you would probably agree two things are true, 1. I have beautiful shoes (ask Miriam) and 2. I am literally the world’s slowest walker. I mean the SLOWEST WALKER EVER! If you have ever walked somewhere with me we both know that if we start at the same time, at some point, you will be looking behind you and quite a distance back I will be there walking at a snail’s pace, and you will be thinking, how is it possible for a grown woman to walk so slowly!
Anyway, I digress. As part of the recent “stay at home” campaign that has been encouraging Americans to stay at home to help curtail the spread of the Corona Virus, I decided I would do what I do when I am on vacation, take a walk listening to my favorite podcasts.
And so, if you are on your first, second, or third walk of the day (I know you are out there and trust me, I get it. Suddenly, a 7,500 sq foot house feels so small), here are a few Podcasts I love and recommend.
Let me start with my BFF, Brene Brown. Her new podcast, “Unlocking Us,” is a MUST listen to for anyone who is experiencing the effects of a pandemic. Yes, I mean you! I felt like Brene’s messaging about how to navigate something for the first time, as she calls it the “FFT” is so spot on. I am not even going to go into more detail because I want you to listen to this message and share it with everyone you know.
Profit with Purpose by Anna Goldstein
I love so many of these podcasts as they offer a tiny way to adjust your mindset, and I think Anna does an incredible job sharing her own experiences, which makes the podcasts super relatable. Let me know if you like episode 111.
This podcast is so fascinating, “99% Invisible is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about— the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world.” My fav is Age of the Algorithm but most recently listened to The Worst Way to Start a City, when my son, Thomas, and I were driving back from UVA. (“Oh, Joe, here is your mule!”)
If you want something light, then listen to Oprah and Gayle King: Your Life in Focus. I laughed out loud yesterday on my 8.6-mile walk. It is hilarious, and you will feel like you are having coffee with Oprah and Gayle. If you want something a bit more thought-provoking, then I suggest, Eckhart Tolle’s, A New Earth. It is multiple episodes so that you can listen to an episode each day for the next week. I had a hard time understanding the message in the book, but the podcast makes it easier to comprehend the concepts.
Whine Down with Jana Kramer and Mike Caussin. This podcast is so honest and real and I’ve been listening to it since I saw their show in Baltimore. I liked the one with Catherine Oxenberg because I have been a big fan of hers since Dynasty, and I am always super curious about cults.
Please share some of your favorites so I can add them to my list.
